Inzwischen mehren sich die Proteste gegen den Konzern, und nicht nur wegen der Krebse selbst, es gibt auch andere Dinge, welche den Konzernaussagen von Nachhaltigkeit völlig widersprechen. I appreciated our conversation last week regarding crayfish. As promised I am sending you some information about our view on crayfish and animal welfare. At IKEA, we take our role as a responsible retailer very seriously and believe that good animal welfare is not only an essential criterion for good quality, healthy food – it is also a very important ethical issue. Presently, we are developing and implementing animal welfare standards on different farm animals such as broiler chicken, laying hens and pigs. We work together with our animal welfare partner, Compassion in World Farming, to develop the standards and to receive advice on various welfare issues. The crayfish sold at IKEA are wild and are fished by traditional methods in the Hubei Province in China. As welfare is an important issue for us we continually work to ensure that the crayfish are treated as humanely as possible. As I explained the modern processes that are used ensure that the crayfish die instantly. We respect your concern of the welfare of crayfish, however, the Swedish tradition of eating crayfish is not connected with any major welfare concern. We will continue our efforts to create a better life for farm animals and are committed in making a difference.

Hope you have a great day and you can enjoy your stay in Sweden! We compeletly understand your point of view and we really appreciate your efforts in said topics; but on the other hand, by doing some really good things you can’t expect that doing in the same instance also bad things they then will not count that much. And fishing crayfish is one of these bad things, no question about that! In our times there is not a single day where you cant read about ecological desasters all over the world in the daily press; as an American indian saying promises: ‚We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.‘ In that awareness, we as the organization RespekTiere, we will continue trying to defend mother earth and their treasures, which includes all their living forms, from the violations of the multi-national affiliated groups, groups like that one you represent. Personally, I am really sorry about that development, cause I really like your company, as I like the swedish lifestyle – but now, in the third millenium, an ‚all you can eat‘-mentality which has the power to destroy parts of nature, and even more seriously, to manipulate the attitudes of the people regarding animal wellfare in a bad way, has to have no more space for spreading their ideas of innocent fun, following the motto: devil-may-care. Eine ganz wichtige Eilmeldung von der hochverehrten LAbg. MM.aDr.in Madeleine Petrovic; Frau Petzrovic ist die Klubobfrau der Grünen Partei in Niederösterreich, wo die Jägerschaft wie überall in Österreich über eine unfassbar starke Lobby verfügt – und erfolgreich die Großparteien infliltriert, damit Einfluss auf die sie betreffende Gesetzgebung nimmt: „GRÜNER Antrag betr. Schonzeit für Füchse abgeschmettert, wird nicht einmal behandelt, GRÜNE und SP wollten anachronistische und grausame Regelung, wonach Füchsinnen IMMER, d.h. auch dann, wenn sie Junge säugen, abgeknallt werden können, ändern. Den Pseudo-Grund für die Regelung – Tollwut – gibt es in Österreich nicht. So müssen Baby-Füchse elend und hilflos verhungern. Das ist eine unmenschliche Barbarei !VP und FP vertreten wertelose Jagd-Auswüchse gegen jede Moral! Wahrscheinlich ist die Regelung verfassungswidrig, weil gegen Strafrecht (§222 StGB); Landesrecht, das Bundesrecht verletzt, ist verfassungswidrig. Aber leider haben die Verletzten und Getöteten keine rechtliche Stimme.“ Es ist ein wahrer Skandal!
